RTS Link Opens February 2027: Is Your JB Business Ready?

The Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link is now set to start carrying passengers in February 2027. Each train ride between Bukit Chagar and Woodlands North takes about 5 minutes, with room for up to 10,000 passengers an hour in each direction. For clinics, salons, beauty centres and spas in JB, that means more people who can reach you easily, and more pressure on bookings, queues and staff.

This guide explains what was announced, who is likely to come, and six practical steps to get your business ready before February.

What was announced about the RTS Link?

On 2 October 2026, Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) said passenger service is now expected to start in February 2027. A few days later, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said physical works will be completed by 31 December 2026, with October to December used to test signalling, train operations and cross-border coordination.

The exact opening date will be announced after the final approvals. Loke said the link will carry "tens of thousands of passengers daily".

Who will the RTS Link bring to JB businesses?

A 5-minute ride with immigration done at the station makes short trips into JB much easier than queuing on the Causeway. Many visitors are likely to come for things that are cheaper or quicker in JB, such as:

  • Health screenings, dental and GP visits. An ISEAS study notes that some health services cost far less in Malaysia than in Singapore.
  • Hair, beauty and spa appointments after work or at the weekend.
  • Shopping and food near Bukit Chagar and JB town.

Johor Bahru residents who work in Singapore also save travel time, which can mean more evening and weekend bookings close to home.

Nobody knows exact numbers yet, so plan for steady growth, not overnight crowds. The businesses that win are the ones that are easy to find, easy to book and quick to serve.

6 ways to get your JB business ready before February 2027

1. Let customers book online, any time

Visitors plan their day around the train. An online booking link lets them choose a time slot and staff member before they cross, instead of calling or turning up and waiting.

2. Send WhatsApp reminders automatically

A visitor from across the border who forgets a booking is a lost slot. Automatic WhatsApp reminders the day before, with one-tap confirm or reschedule, cut no-shows. Our no-show guide explains how.

3. Take deposits online

A small deposit paid by card, e-wallet or online banking when they book keeps visitors committed. It also protects your busiest weekend slots.

4. Handle walk-in surges with a queue system

Weekends and public holidays may bring sudden walk-ins. A queue number system with a TV display and voice calling keeps the waiting area calm. See our clinic queue guide.

5. Keep enough stock for busy days

Popular products, medicines and treatment supplies can run out faster on peak days. AI stock control that warns you before stock runs low, and adjusts stock when you scan a delivery note, saves last-minute panic.

6. Serve customers in their language

Visitors may speak English, Chinese or Malay. Reminders, receipts and a queue display in English, Malay and Chinese make everyone feel welcome.
