Year-End School Holidays 2026: 4 Weeks Off From 5 December. Is Your Salon, Spa or Clinic Ready?

Malaysia's year-end school holidays run from 4 December 2026 in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, and from 5 December in every other state, until 31 December. That is four weeks of families at home, followed by Christmas, New Year and the run-up to Chinese New Year in early February 2027.

A December 2026 calendar with school holidays from 5 December to 31 December and peak days on weekends, Christmas and New Year's Eve, next to a made-up salon's weekly bookings rising from 120 in November to 170 in December, and a 4-step checklistA December 2026 calendar with school holidays from 5 December to 31 December and peak days on weekends, Christmas and New Year's Eve, next to a made-up salon's weekly bookings rising from 120 in November to 170 in December, and a 4-step checklist

For salons, beauty centres, spas and clinics, this is usually the busiest stretch of the year. This guide sets out the key dates, what we expect to change, and a 6-step checklist to get ready in November. The expectations are our view based on the season and recent news, not guarantees.

Group A is Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu. Group B is every other state and federal territory. Dates are from the Education Ministry's 2026 academic calendar.

What do we expect in December?

Weekend and evening slots will fill first. With children off school, parents tend to book haircuts, facials and massages together, and often on the same days. Expect Saturdays, Sundays and the days around Christmas and New Year to sell out early.

More walk-ins in tourist areas. BMI said on 20 October 2026 that Malaysia's tourism year will depend a lot on December. Visa-free entry for visitors from China runs until 31 December 2026. Businesses in KL, Penang, Melaka and JB may see more walk-ins from travellers.

Staff will ask for leave at the same time. Your team has families too. Without a plan, leave requests clash with your busiest days.

Clinics see a different pattern. Families often fit in dental check-ups, vaccinations and health screenings while children are on holiday, and travellers need medical certificates or treatment while away from home.

The rush carries into January. Chinese New Year falls in early February 2027, so hair and beauty bookings usually stay high through January.

6 steps to get ready in November

  1. Open December bookings now. Let customers book online any time, so peak slots are taken by people who plan, not lost to a busy phone line.
  2. Ask for a deposit on peak slots. A small online deposit for weekend and festive slots cuts no-shows when demand is highest. See our guide to reducing no-shows.
  3. Turn on WhatsApp reminders. A reminder the day before gives customers a chance to reschedule, so you can fill the slot.
  4. Plan staff leave and rosters early. Agree who is off and when before December, and add extra hours where you can.
  5. Stock up before suppliers close. Hair colour, treatment products and massage oils run out faster in December, and some suppliers slow down over the holidays.
  6. Sell festive packages and vouchers. Gift vouchers and year-end packages bring in cash now and bookings in January. See how to manage beauty packages.

A made-up example: what a busy December looks like

Weekend share of bookings45%60%
No-shows without reminders10 a week17 a week
No-shows with reminders and deposits3 a week4 a week

The numbers are made up, but the pattern is common: more bookings, more of them on weekends, and more lost slots if nobody is reminded.
